Kind, Caring, and Respectful Students (KCR)
Kind, Caring, and Respectful students or KCR is a school-wide message that the Clough Team relays to students everyday. We do this in a number of ways, including KCR time, morning announcements, and teaching students about it across school environments - from the classroom to specials to the lunchroom.
What is taught during KCR time?
Every student in grades 1 through 4 participate in weekly KCR lessons. The students meet as a grade level and the school counselor and each specialist teacher work collaboratively to co-teach the lessons. During KCR time, we discuss various social issues through the Second Step Curriculum and various supplemental materials as appropriate. Check out the Second Step tab for more information on the curriculum.
Morning Announcements
Each day, Mrs. Gallagher introduces a segment of the "Principal's Principles" during morning announcements. Each week, one new character word is introduced to students. Each daily message is explained in a simple and concise way so that all students can understand. Specific examples are included that help students apply the character traits in their lives. Examples of past week's words have been: acceptance, adaptability, caring, character, citizenship, community service, compassion, and conservation. These words are posted in each classroom and are often used as a positive frame of reference throughout the entire school day.
